Healthy Pets – The Importance of Vaccination

Healthy Pets – The Importance of Vaccination

Recently we were presented with a very sick young dog who had become suddenly ill. This 3 year old dog was a very well loved family pet and had become very depressed and staggery over a couple of days. The owners were very worried and so were we, when we made a diagnosis of Leptospirosis or Weil’s Disease. Despite intensive treatment Ruby worsened and had to be put to sleep to prevent further suffering. Vaccination of dogs and cats is a form of insurance policy to help prevent fatal infection in the event of exposure to harmful and serious diseases. Ark Vets recommend an Annual Health Examination for all  pets and an appropriate booster vaccination if necessary. The main vaccination for dogs includes Distemper virus, Leptospirosis, Hepatitis virus, Parvo virus and PI3. We also advise that all dogs are vaccinated against Canine Cough (Kennel Cough, Infectious Bronchitis) Not all diseases require annual vaccination but Leptospirosis and Canine cough do. So to keep your pet healthy and happy please make sure all vaccinations are up to date

Insurance companies now require evidence of vaccinations and annual dental assessments to ensure full cover. So check the small print and make sure you are compliant with their requirements.
