Dental Radiology is now regarded as essential for a comprehensive examination of the teeth to establish whether an animal is in pain. Most of the tooth is under the gum; we can’t visualise the root so we need xray films to see what is going on there. We are delighted that we have been able to get a new digital x-ray machine which our veterinary nurse Louise is using to take a dental xray. The new machine can produce high quality images enabling us to examine the tooth roots and alveolar bone in great detail. Building on many years of experience and postgraduate training abroad, higher quality diagnostics will enable our dental team to offer a much higher level of care to our patients than has been previously possible. In many cases, knowing what is going on under the gumline will prevent us from missing very painful conditions and this is ultimately kinder and of great benefit to our patients.
